This year seems to be flying fast as we approach the end of term 2. Last week two classes (2/3 S and 2/3 G) attended the Don College production of ‘Mary Poppins’. Tomorrow students from 3/4 H to Year 6) will watch this fantastic year 11/12 performance.
Reports will be sent home tomorrow (Wednesday). I wish to acknowledge staff, especially class teachers and AST for their efforts to have the reports writing in a timely manner. Parent Teacher bookings are on a new system (see below). If you cannot book through this means, please contact the office and it will be booked on your behalf.
Maths Mania was held last week, and it was brilliant. Lead by Mrs Karen Whish-Wilson, the Numeracy team put together an engaging array of hands-on maths activities and tasks. Students thoroughly enjoyed the numerous challenges. Several classes booked in twice.
This Friday we farewell our Students teachers who will have completed their four (4) week practicums with us. I wish to acknowledge the extra work of their supervising teachers; Abbie Scott, Jackie Sherriff, Lisa Welling and Cherie Portlock. On behalf of EDPS, I wish Phoebe O’Halloran (5/6 W), Grace Kenny (2/3 S), Bianca Stebbeings (1/2 P) and Manassah Dare-Bonnici (4/5 S) all the best as they return to their University studies.
Next Wednesday, we will have our final TasTAFE lunch. A huge thank you to Keith Sanderson and his team at TasTAFE, in partnership with the East Devonport CFC and East Devonport PS have provided pathways to our parents/community members who have participated in the program. Through the Wednesday lunches, the TAFE students have learnt how to prepare and cook a variety of dished for many people. The staff and students have enjoyed the delicious lunches each Wednesday during this term. We wish the TAFE student all the best, with many continuing their studies.
Our Parent Teacher interviews are being held on Monday 28 June (3-5pm), Wednesday 30 June (3-5pm) and Thursday 1 July (3-4:30pm). To book please follow the link below or call the school office on 6427 8932.

Last week all of our classes visited our GP Hall to participate in our Maths Mania where the aim was to bring back the love of maths. This involved students completing “hands on” maths tasks including favourites such as:
- How many Maltesers in the Jar? Won by Darcy (3/4H) with 52 maltesers guess.
- How long can you make your Minty wrapper. Ayden (5/6W) with 94cm.
- How many Snakes would it take to get from one side of the room to the other? three winners - Bronte (1/2P), Aneka (P/1M) and MaddY (4/5S).
- There was also a bowling alley focusing on making friends of ten and a QR coding area.
In total there was 50 exciting tasks for the students to do. A huge thank you to our school Numeracy group of Mrs Clinton, Miss Scott, Mr Dolbey, Mrs Gleeson, Mrs Piper, Mrs Alsford, and Ms Morice for taking the time to provide the tasks.

Mrs Killick and her team have been working with Nardia Broomhall and made some changes to our Kinder play space.

Maths Mania
Students in Kinder Killick attended Maths Mania last week with Mr Dolbey's 5-6 Class.

Frog in the Pond – Adjectives
Over the last two weeks students explored different adjectives to describe a Frog in a Pond. The students focused on taste, appearance, smell and below are some student samples of brainstorming all the different types of adjectives to describe their own Frog in a Pond. Students then had an opportunity last week to make their own jelly. We talked about the process of making jelly and the procedure. Finally, the students got to choose their own chocolate frog to put in their pond.

In 2-3 Scott we have been conducting STEAM challenges to learn about the design process. We were set the task to build a maze out of a set materials such as:
- a cardboard box,
- straws,
- popsicle sticks,
- tape and
- pipe cleaners.
Through collaboration, we planned out our ideas and started to build some walls for the maze. It was hard work but we persisted through the challenge. We tested our mazes with a marble and all of them were successful!
In 3-4H we have been working hard to boost our mathematical skills. Some of us have been working on addition of two two-digit numbers, another group have been working on understanding and applying the formal algorithm method and some of us have been developing more confidence with our multiplication. Seeing as we have been working so hard, it was awesome to have a small break and engage with the Maths Mania activities set up in the GP hall. We spend 40 minutes completing the activities and every single one of us had so much fun!

Students have adventured on making paper mache animals this term. Some students have enjoyed gluing newspaper to balloons using flour and water whilst other students can’t wait to reach the next part of construction which is painting the paper mache mask.
While the glue dried on our paper mache balloons the students took a break and drew a superhero or villain using oil pastels. Some of the heroes and villains have been displayed in the hallway. Which superhero would you choose to help save the day?
This term the lower primary have been learning how to code using the app, Scratch on iPads. The school has purchased 60 laptops this year and the upper primary have been learning to use Microsoft Windows 10. Students have started to learn file management and how to use Microsoft Word.
We have been busy in the garden keeping the weeds under control. We have finished harvesting what was left of the summer vegetables and have been planting our winter crop. We have carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, spinach, silverbeet, celery, parsley, snow peas and brussel sprouts planted. We will be also planting broad beans, beetroot and some potatoes.

Wonder Weekly June 14
This issue is packed full of nautical information. The challenge for CU students is to research and answer the nautical questions:
- What distance is a nauticle mile in kilmetres?
- The toilet on a tall ship is known as the....?
- How do windward and leeward differ?
- What does the old term larboard refer to?
- On a sailing vessel, what is the sheet?
For an additional challenge you can try making some walnut shell sailing boats (unless you have a nut allergy)
Wonder Weekly June 21
Wonder Weekly June 21 talks about Dark Mofo and the ogoh-ogoh sculpture of a stag beetle that was created for this year's festival. The Mt Mangana stag beetle is only found in Tasmania, and are listed as a vulnerable species. Sticking with the theme of Tasmanian threatened species, the challenge for CU students is to come up with an idea for the 2022 Dark Mofo. Suggestions include:
- scale drawing of your ogoh-ogoh
- a short story why you think it is a good choice
Our school library has been lucky enough to receive a donation recently of two books from the Devonport Senior Citizen's Club. Colleen Holloway presented these to Mrs Steven.
On Friday 18 June students from 2-3G and 2-3S travelled to the Paranaple Art Centre to see the Don College production of Mary Poppins. Here are some students from 2-3G with Mary!
Pete the Sheep - Kinder to 1-2P
Class Challenge - Last Week of Term
Last term, the primary classes enjoyed a Connect Four challenge which was a great success. This term all the students from Prep to Year 6 will be playing off each other to find out who is the class champ for Noughts and Crosses. The winner from each class will play off in the GP Hall on the last Friday against staff. Who will be our Noughts and Crosses East Devonport Primary School champion for Early Childood and Primary areas? We look forward to seeing who.
Students have been gaining many points for their House by receiving Thumbs Up cards when doing the right thing. These points will be added to the points from Cross Country to decide which will be the winning house for the term. This Friday, the House captains will announce the winner house. The winning house will be allowed to wear their house colour to school on the last Friday (2nd of July) of the term. The winning house will play a game together in the gym with their house leaders and house staff.
During the July term holidays Fairy Tales and Pirate Sails in Wright St, East Devonport, are running a wide range of activities. For more information please click on the link below or go to https://fairytales.corsizio.com/ to book.
