Wecome to the second newsletter for term 4. What a busy start to this term with performances, excursions, orientations and visitors from both TasPort and Clarence High School Band. As you can see from the Dates to Remember the remainder of term 4 is going to be just as busy as we finish the school year.
TasPorts - November 2022, the month of our port- Port of Devonport
TasPorts talks were fantastic, with students totally engaged. Below is an ex-student who was so proud of his East Devonport Primary education, he shared with students, a photo of him at eight years of age.
Inspiring Story- Brett Taylor
Brett Taylor went to East Devonport Primary School and his mum was a teacher there too and he has been working at the Port of Devonport for 42 years.
He brought a photo of him at EDPS from age 8, wearing a tie.
Brett works with Safety and Operations in the Port and making sure the machines don’t crash into each other. He’s in charge of Operations, which means everything needs to work like clockwork. He loves his job.
Christmas Panel – Devonport
Have a look at this completed by the Year 1 students. A huge thank you to Ms Meg Dehle (designer/parent), Natasha and Miss Kayla Simpson (Teacher). This is going to look fabulous in the Devonport Mall, on display for Christmas.
School Review
As part of our continuous school improvement, we will be involved in an External School Review with a Review Team. The purpose of External School Reviews is to support schools to raise achievement, sustain high performance and provide quality assurance to build public confidence in government schools.
All Tasmanian Government Schools will be externally reviewed every four years. The focus of the Review is to evaluate school performance. The Review Team consists of a Review Chair and trained Principal Peer Reviewers. The review will occur on Monday 14th and Tuesday 15th of November 2022,
We will find out the aspects of the school’s improvement that have been verified through the Review processes as well as the improvements that we need to make in the future.
During this review some students, parents, School Association members and staff will be asked to provide information to the Review Team in a number of ways. These include:
- individual interviews
- group discussions (with students or staff or parents)
- meetings (usually School Association, staff meeting)
- visits into classrooms.
We appreciate your support and time in helping us with this review process.
If you would like more information, please contact the school office on 6427 8932.
State School Athletics
Congratulations to Amelia and Samara who were selected in the PSST State athlectics team. The girls travelled to Launceston on Friday to run. Amelia came 3rd in her heat and finished 10th overall and Samara came 6th in her heat and finished 13th overall. Fantastic effort from both girls.
End of year reports
A reminder to families that end of year reports will be distributed on Friday December 9.
The report will show your child’s learning achievement on a 9-point visual scale which replaces A-E ratings for students in Prep to Year 10.
The 9-point scale shows more specifically where your child’s learning achievement is against the expected standard for their year level.
There will be no teacher comments on the report.
For more information about the changes to reports:
To continue to support our families in settling into school, we would like to invite you to attend a series of Kindergarten Orientation Sessions outlined below:
Session 1 – Wednesday 30th November (1 – 2pm)
Meet our Principal, Mrs Woodberry and office staff for an informal afternoon tea and tour of the school. Enrolment forms will be handed out on this day.
Session 2 – Wednesday 7th December (1 – 2pm)
Learn about school routines, uniform, canteen, our school lunch program and attendance. Collect an information pack on the Kindergarten Development Check and learn what you can do to support your child’s achievements.
Session 3 – Wednesday 14th December (1 – 2pm)
Meet some of our school support staff to find out about developmental milestones and how we support students to reach their full potential.
During the Kindergarten Orientation sessions, students will participate in some learning activities in the kindergarten classroom space while parents will attend each of the sessions in the East Devonport Primary library.
For these orientation sessions we ask you to please bring a bag with a drink bottle filled with water, a piece of fresh fruit for their fruit break, and a hat, as we will be having outside play. Children are to wear appropriate clothes for play. Please make sure that all of your child’s belongings are named.
We do require that each child has a responsible adult present on school grounds during each Orientation Session.
If you have any questions regarding the orientation sessions or enrolment process, please feel free to contact the school office on 6427 8932.
We look forward to seeing you and your family soon.
Last week we were fortunate to have Clarence High School's Entertainment Band come and perform for the whole school. Our students and staff enjoyed listening to a range of music including Star Wars theme music and YMCA. They were a very talented and we thank them very much for entertaining us.

Students who attended Brain Boot Camp last week tried out their cake decorating skills. Check out their amazing designs.

In 5W have been focusing on location and coordinates as part of our Maths learning. We had to create a map of a desert island complete with grid coordinates, compass and a key. As well as this we had to write a set of instructions using appropriate terminology that would direct someone to some hidden treasure. When we had finished we swapped our maps and set to work trying to uncover the location of the each other's treasure.
Since returning from school holidays 6C have been busy learning about the Federation of Australia. We have learnt that it took many meetings spanning over a decade to have a constitution that could be presented and passed by the British Parliament. On January 1st, 1901, Australia elected its first Prime Minister Sir Edmund Barton who served for 2 years.

On Thursday 8th November, Ashton shared his birthday by bringing in some yummy, delicious cupcakes to share. Whilst the cakes filled out bellies, they sent us all mad with funny faces.

Today the year 6's enjoyed a Taster morning at Reece High School. Year 6 Dolbey enjoyed making a brain teaser wooden puzzle and Year 6 Crossin enjoyed cooking. The students were on their best behaviour and are now looking forward to Orientation Day which will take place on December
