Attendance
In our assembly on Monday we celebrated over 50 students with 100% attendance in term 1. This is a fantastic effort. Students will be invited to attend a special morning tea with the principal early in term 2.
Camp
Today our year 3 and 4 students full of excitement, boarded the bus and headed for Hagley. We are fortunate to have such an opportunity for our students. There are many fun and educational activities planned for these students, what a wonderful way to finish term 1! We look forward to seeing the photos of our learning in action.
House Winners
The house winners for term 1 are: TASMAN. Students in Tasman who are not attending camp are invited to wear blue on Friday and will meet Miss Scott in the afternoon for their celebration activities.
Rotary BBQ
A reminder to families that our end of term BBQ, hosted by the Rotary Club of Devonport South East will be held at lunch on Friday. There will be NO hot lunches on this day.
Mothers Day Stall
This year Mother's Day falls on Sunday 12 May. We will be holding our Mother's Day stall on Thursday 9 May for our Kinder students and Friday 10 May for Prep to Year 6 students.
AGFEST
In the first week of term 2 our choir students have again been invited to sing at AFGEST on Thursday 2 May. This is an incredible opportunity for our students. Please ensure any outstanding paperwork is returned to the office by the end of this week as numbers will need to be confirmed with the venue.
Footsteps
Starting on Wednesday 1 May our 3-4 students will be participating in the Footsteps dance program during the afternoon. This program will run for the duration of term 2.
Kangaroo Kids
We are excited to be hosting our first LIL Kangaroo Kids session in the gym on Friday 3 May with Miss Sharman and the team at the East Devonport Child and Family Learning Centre.
Term 1 Round-Up
What an amazing 5 weeks I have had whilst at East Devonport Primary School. There have been so many highlights from the athletics carnival, school camps to working our way through NAPLAN testing and so many more. There really are so many wonderful opportunities for our students. I am excited to be able to share that I will be extending my time at East Devonport until the end of term 2. I am really looking forward to continuing to work with you all.
I hope everyone has a safe holiday period and I look forward to seeing everybody in term 2.

Term 1 was a busy term for us! Here are some of the events we held/participated in:
- On the 22nd of March, we held our annual Ride2School day. We also got to wear the colour green for the Jack Jumpers basketball team because they made it to the finals! They won 3 out of their 5 matches which lead them to victory.
- On Thursday the 28th March, we announced the winners of the easter raffle. Well done to the winners and thanks for everyone who bought a ticket. We managed to raise $391.55. The winner from 3rd place is Nicole Barfoot, in 2nd place is Cruz Leonard and in first place is Noah St Clair.
- On Election day we held a BBQ to help raise money for our breakfast club program. We raised $237.50
- In week 8, all students had a chance to enter in the easter colouring competition. There was a winner for each year level and they were - Elijah Michaels, Noah Mackay, Lincoln Burk, Nina Stuart, Chelsea Snashall, Wyntah Riley, Mhairi Buckley and Declan Thomas. We thank everyone who entered.
We hope everyone has enjoyed term 1 of 2024 and we are looking forward to seeing you all in term 2 for lots of learning and fun opportunities.
Students in our Children's University Program received activities this week to work through over the holidays, and an invitation to visit the Burnie Regional Museum in week 2 of the holidays. Students also received the Autumn Holiday Challenges below. Students can complete these challenges and upload to the portal, or include it in their folders for marking. As work is completed students can return the work clearly labelled (or in the folder) to the office with their passport, to be marked.
AEDC - Building a national picture of child health
From May 2024, our school, along with thousands of others across the country, will participate in the Australian Early Development Census (AEDC).
The AEDC is a teacher-completed census (similar to a questionnaire) which provides a comprehensive picture of how children have developed by the time they start their first year of full-time school.
The AEDC is an Australian Government Initiative and is completed nationally every three years.
Children don’t miss any class time while the AEDC is completed, and parents/carers don’t need to supply schools with any new information.
The data collected through the AEDC is used by schools, communities and governments to better understand children and families’ needs, and identify the services, resources and support they need.
AEDC data is reported at a school, community, state/territory and national level. AEDC results for individual children are not reported and the AEDC is not used as an individual diagnostic tool.
Some teachers have found that completing the AEDC made them more aware of the needs of individual children and their class, and that the data was useful for planning for transitions to Year 1 and developing programs.
Participation in the AEDC is voluntary, however the AEDC relies on all schools with children in their first year of full-time school to participate in the collection. Parents/carers don’t need to take any action unless they choose not to include their children in the census.
To find out more about the AEDC and how it is being used to help children and families visit: www.aedc.gov.au.
