What a huge start to term 3 we have had! We are now in our second week of the swimming program, such an important part of our school year. I want to thank our families for being so organised in having our student ready to participate in such a vital program. Also, to our students who are working so well with us to make these 2 weeks such a success.
Our Practical Learning Program (PLP) has started with our early years students out pursuing learning in a practical way. Gardening, cooking, school pride and craft are just some of the programs our students are participating in. These 5 weeks learning programs will continue to grow and include new offerings. We look forward to some musical, health and PE based programs coming on board and expanding into our senior school when swimming has finished.
We now have over 80% of our families signed up and using Seesaw to communicate with our school. We will also be using Seesaw to display evidence of learning happening with in our classrooms and for your child over the coming weeks and months. If you have yet to sign up to See Saw or need some help to do so, please check with the office and we can support you to make this happen.
We have started this term with a focus on Respect at East Devonport Primary School. We are working in each classroom and with our student leaders around what we will see, what we will hear and what we will feel when we all show each other respect. We will continue to focus on respect over the term.
Our move to morning assemblies has provide us with some communication challenges. I apologise to any families that have been unable to attend or missed part of the assembly due to these problems. Our celebration assemblies will start at 10.00 am every time and will now not change for the rest of the year. The next parent assemblies will be held on :
Monday Week 6 - 26th August - 5-6Sherriff Hosting. 10am start
Monday Week 10 - 23rd September - 4-5Lindsay Hosting. 10am start
I also want to acknowledge families for supporting your child to get to school. Our attendance data continues to show a steady increase in students attending school every day. Attendance is vital to our students learning and to see this increase shows the support from families our school enjoys as we continue to work together.
Our School Executive Council and Class Representatives working hard to devise a respectful behaviour approach for East Devonport Primary. What superstars !!
Students in 5-6 Scott enjoyed making and tasting their creation they made using our school pizza oven.
David from Marine and Safety Tasmania came to our school to talk about ways students can be safe while boating and when they are in and around water. Here are some of our students demonstrating how to wear different types of lifejackets.

Activities
July Challenge - Learn how to knit: Let’s make some time to learn a new hobby! Knitting might also include tomboy stitch, French knitting or crocheting. Ask a friend, family member or research online for help. This activity is worth a stamp and 1 hour in your passport. You can upload a photo of you knitting to the portal and answer the questions, or hand in the completed activity.
World Elephant Day - August 12 is World Elephant Day – an opportunity to celebrate one of the most majestic creatures on the planet, and to raise awareness about the dangers they face in the wild. Elephants unique size and appearance are well known, but did you also know that elephants are incredibly intelligent? So much so they there have been elephants who have been taught to paint! To help celebrate World Elephant Day, we’re challenging you to do your best elephant painting…but you’ve got to paint it like an elephant! That means no hands, you’ve got to use your mouth like an elephant trunk to paint instead! Upload a photo of your completed art-work, or hand in the completed work, to the portal to earn one hour in your Passport.
National Science Week - Celebrate National Science Week with us! The 2024 school theme is Species Survival – More Than Just Sustainability. The link for the Science week book can be accessed here: PowerPoint Presentation (cua-prod.syd1.digitaloceanspaces.com). Present evidence of your activities to earn hours. If you would like a hard copy, please see Jess on Friday.
