Our first newsletter for the year has much to celebrate with our school, and to share some really exciting information with our school community.
Firstly thank you to our families for the amazing way our students have returned in 2025. It is great to see all students in full school uniform. The uniform provides us with a sense of belonging at our school. If any family needs support with uniform, please contact the office. I am really looking forward to our students staying at this high level regarding the wearing of the uniform all year. This includes wearing of hats in terms 1 and 4.
We as a school have many new routines to get used to this year. A bigger morning block, recess then eating time just to name a few. Other exciting changes include subjects like outdoor learning or life skills. We have also brought in Hands on Learning for our year 4 to 6 students. Mrs Haywood has been around to each or our classes and discussed the program and all the opportunities that can happen in Hands on Learning.
A very special welcome to all our new students and families who have joined us over the holiday period. I hope you are settling into East Devonport Primary School and seeing what an amazing learning space this is. Hello and welcome to our wonderful kindergarten students who are having their 1st week ever at school, such a very exciting time.
I would also like to introduce and welcome our new staff members.
Mrs Samantha Stott who will be teaching Prep, Mr Brett Smith years 3 and 4,
Mr Jye Snare year 4 and 5 teacher, Mr Joe Smallbon, teaching music.
Mrs Jess Jones who is supporting our year 2/3 learners this year as well as teaching Health and Life Skills.
Mr John Perry who will be teaching life skills, as well as supporting our 4/5/6 classes.
Mrs Sue Haywood is returning to us to run our Hands on Learning program, welcome back. We also have Mrs Kayla Simpson returning to take our Kindergarten class.
This week also has seen us start a great program with the PCYC. This adventure-based program will certainly be a great benefit to our school. We are lucky that we will have several groups be able to access this program over the year.
Our year 2 team are busy organising our camp, with lots of very exciting activities planned for the 2 days. Parents/ Guardians please make sure you return your camp forms and payment as soon as possible.
Miss Tegan Sharmen spent time with our staff today going through all the planning for our athletics carnival to be held next Wednesday the 26th of February. We are excited that this year we will be including some tabloids sports to the day. Based on feedback from last year, we will be giving ribbons out to our students the week after the carnival. Last year many students had misplaced their ribbons by the end of the day. We hope this change will allow for students to get their ribbons home safely.
As you may be aware we are having difficulties with the See Saw app at the moment. We are working extremely hard with the Department to resolve the issue. As soon as we are able to get it up and running, we will share all the log on information with you.
We will be holding a "meet the teacher" afternoon on Tuesday the 4th of March. Classrooms will be open from 3.15pm until 4.00pm for parents and guardians to come in and meet your child’s teacher. Their will be a sausage sizzle available and Mr Perry will be running a information session on the Children University for those who are interested.
Overall, we have had a positive start to the year, with most classes settling well. I am really looking forward to the Athletic Carnival and a chance for us to all have a great day showing our true East Devonport Primary School determination.
This year we are again seeking additional parent members to join our School Association. We meet once per term for approximately 1 and half hours. If you are interested in joining us, please complete a form at the office by Friday February 28th.
Our AGM will be held on Tuesday 11th March at 5.30pm.
