Happy Spring
I missed a bit of autumn and most of winter in the garden this year! I broke my fibula bone at my knee bushwalking in Cradle Mountain over the autumn holidays. I am so delighted to be walking again and back in the garden and in the school community. I really missed all the students ☺️
Since I've been back we have been busy busy busy cleaning up from winter and planting heaps of seeds for the spring and summer garden beds. Many of the classes have helped with bed preparation, seed saving and planting. We have been focusing a bit on beans. All the classes that have visited the garden this term have been introduced to my art display of Goldilocks and the 3 Beans and all the ways to get the conditions "just right" for the beans including the temperature, the amount of water and the soil in the bed. We have planted lots of climbing beans in pots in the greenhouse for planting out in the garden beds in term 4.
We wrapped up our garden time for term 3 with a spring celebration of garden art activities involving seeds and dried flowers. So many wonderful creations were made! I also had the pleasure of hosting a UTAS placement student who was super helpful with some of the garden tasks that need the dexterity of adult hands.
The garden club is popular as ever and they have been super helpful, and we have had lots of fun. A new addition to their roster of tasks is making flower bouquets for the hot lunch program. I think they add a nice touch to the space and I think many people have appreciated them. ☺️
The year 6 compost crew have been holding down the fort while I was away, making sure the school composting program continued while I was away. Go team!
And a big shout out and thank you to the students in 3/4 Scott for making so many seed packets to pack all our saved seed to share.
I am really looking forward to the summer garden and term 4. Our new garden expansion will hopefully begin in term 4 or over the summer holidays....fingers crossed! I am trying to be patient, but I cannot contain my excitement!
Enjoy the holidays! Hopefully I will not "break a leg" again on my bushwalking adventures in Freycinet.
