Readers Cup
On Friday the 10th of November Shelby, Mianda, Jonah, Darcy, Edward and Henry from Year 6 represented East Devonport Primary School at the Devonport Readers Cup. In preparation for the cup students had to read several picture books and novels in their own time and respond to one or more of these texts in a creative challenge. Our students chose to create and recite a poem about the book 'Earthquake' by Jackie French, as well as make a diorama in response to 'Flood' by the same author. The student performed admirably on the day and were impressed by the work presented by other schools.
Earthquake
The ground was shaking, and my feet were quaking.
Newcastle began to shake or was it a fake.
As we ate our meal, I had a feeling it was real.
All the suffering and pain was driving even the survivors insane.
The houses went down and broke our town.
Some people were lying flat on their face and others got away like it was a race.
The earth rumbled and the buildings crumbled.
The survivors drove fast like it was a rocket blast.
Buildings break things fall over me like it was a rake.
People homeward bound lost people need to be found.
It shook the ground and we all frowned.
There were wounds all over me but at least we were free.
So, we fled the city what a pity.
And that’s the end now we know why we said goodbye.
