Principal's Report

As always we have had an incredibly busy few weeks at East Devonport Primary School, with so many amazing opportunities for our students.
We have had our year 6 girls attend an International Women’s Day function whilst our boys spent time with Mr Lindsay doing a range of sports-based activities.

We also have had a group of year 5 girls being involved in a resilience and confidence building program with the PCYC and Mrs Piper. This program is running for the rest of term and then again later in the year. We thank the PCYC for all their support.

Our Rotary readers program is up and happening again this year. We now have over 10 Rotary Volunteers working with our children in our literacy block. This support allows over 20 students each week to be involved in the program. Again, a huge thanks to Rotary for their support of this program.

Over the last 2 weeks we have had our own athletics’ carnival, which was a great success. It was a fantastic to see so many of our students out there doing their very best. A huge thanks to Miss Sharman for organising the day, especially all the fun sporting activities that our students participated in. Congratulations to those students who got to participate in the interschools carnival at Penguin last week. It was pleasing to hear that our students were excellent in all aspects of the carnival, participating, working hard and behaviour. Once again well done.

Our ‘Hands on Learning’ program will start next week. We were overwhelmed with how many students applied to be involved, 22 students will begin next week. I know that Mrs Haywood and Matt Willis are very excited to be starting the program. The renovations to the classroom/shed and the outdoor learning area are now completed with a leanto installed to support the outdoor learning program. We are ready to go and look forward to sharing all the great work our students produce in following newsletters.

Our student council executive will be attending a leadership program with over 30 other schools this Thursday, to learn about what makes an impactful leader in schools. Mr Perry and Miss Andrews will accompany the students and we look forward to hearing and seeing all the learning that happens on the day put into action at our school.

We have our Year 2 camp next week and Mrs Marcus and the team are busily preparing a very exciting 2 days for the students. These events are an amazing opportunity for our students, and I thank all the staff who are volunteering to stay overnight and going the extra mile to allow our students to experience this amazing opportunity.

We have held a leadership assembly this year to recognise our student leaders, both our SRC and SRC executive, these are very prestigious positions within our school.

Next week we will recognise our sports leaders at a special assembly on Tuesday 18th March at 10.30 am. This has meant our 1st celebration assembly for the year will now be held on Monday March 31st at 10.30. We love to see parent involvement in this assemblies. We hope to see you there.

Our year 3 and 5 students this week will be involved in NAPLAN testing. We have been working hard to get organised for this time, we know all our students will do their best.

Our 2025 Bright Eyes Scholarship recipient Kessendra attended the International Women's Day Talk sponsered by the Soroptimist International of Devonport last week.
