Principal's Report

As we come to the end of the term it is a great time to reflect on what a busy and exciting time it has been. We have had so many wonderful highlights throughout the whole term. We celebrated many students whose attendance has been amazing so far this year.

We have had over 20 amazing entries into Brixhibition with Alby and Myami  doing a excellent job and being announced as our category winners this year. Myami will continue and represent our school at the coastal exhibition during the school holidays.

Today I had the great pleasure of driving our students to a chess tournament. This comes from all the hard work Mr Lindsey has been doing in building our chess club. Every Thursday we have over 20 students learning the great skills of chess as well as showing great sportsmanship and working together to get better. We wish to thank the South East Devonport Rotary Club for supporting us in buying chess sets for this program.

This term we have also been very lucky to have the Bright Sparks Electrical Safety program at our school. This program certainly highlights and educates our students on the dangers of electricity but, more importantly shows them how to use electricity safely.

The Premiers Reading Challenge started this week and continues until 24th of August. The challenge is to read 10 books in 10 weeks. We hope that many of our students take up this challenge and can really enjoy the great fun that reading gives.

What an amazing event we had last week with our first ever colour run. It truly was the most amazing day with so many wonderful highlights. To see so many of our students out there having a great time running through the obstacles as well as being coloured by our very enthusiastic staff was great.  Thanks to Mrs Gleeson, Mrs Sheriff, our TA Ben for being “slimmed” as part of the build-up. What an amazing effort for us to get over $11,000 in fundraising. This is truly an outstanding effort and really will kick start our efforts towards a bike track for our school. We are hoping that with these funds we will be able to create an amazing bike track for our students by the end of this year. We are currently working with both the Department and Council to try and make this happen. We are also very grateful to the Rotary Club of Devonport North for supporting this idea.

Finally, a huge thanks to all our students and families for your understanding as we faced several staff shortages over the last few weeks. We have battled with a lot of sickness during this time and unfortunately relief teachers are extremely hard to find. This meant that we needed to combine several classes most days. The ability of our students to get on with their learning during this time is truly a credit to them.

I hope everyone has a restful and happy holidays and we look forward to seeing everybody again in term 3.
