East Devonport Primary School has achieved so many amazing things throughout 2024. It has been a privilege to be a small part of the outstanding success this year. Our school data has shown growth in school belonging, participation and engagement with teachers. This is highlighted by our continual growth in our attendance which has increased by over 2% this year, an outstanding effort. We have also had over 54% of our students attend more than 90% of days this year. This is such a pleasing result for our school and shows how much this community values education.
Can I take a moment to pause and thank Ms Abbie Scott and Ms Tessa Lee for their contributions to East Devonport Primary School. I am sure the whole school will join me in thanking them. We wish them all the best as they embark on new adventures. In 2025 we will be welcoming the following teachers,Miss Kayla Simpson who is returning from maternity leave, Mr Jye Snare, Mr Brett Smith, Ms Samantha Stott, Mr Joe Smallbon, and Siobhan Andrews to our school. We would also like to welcome Mr John Perry and Jessinda Jones who will be joining our leadership team.
As for new adventures, may I wish the year 6 students all the very best for 2025 and into the future. While most of our students will be moving on to Reece High School, some will be moving to other schools to continue their schooling. Thank you to the families that have supported them and us in their time at East Devonport and know that you will be there to support them as they move forward.
Thank you to everyone who has contributed to East Devonport this year. I have said on many occasions how lucky as a school we are to have such community support. A very genuine thank you to you all for the amazing work and support this year.
I wish you all the best for the festive season and hope you have a very safe and happy new year.

Term 4 has flown past, as we all knew it would. In the Music room, we got busy learning a few Halloween themed songs, and playing these on xylophones and marimbas. Children practised playing note patterns (melodies) at the correct time of the song, having already learnt these melodies “by ear.” After the excitement of Halloween died down (excuse the pun), it was time to focus upon Christmas. This year, all classes learnt to play Jingle Bells in many different ways. First we practised the words and the solfege hand signs (these visual cues help children distinguish changes in pitch), then classes learnt the notes on xylophones, and in the case of Gr 4W, on recorder. Gr 1/2C focussed on learning the chords on their ukeleles, reinforcing the chords we’d learnt earlier in the year. A really festive, joyous time to sing and play music!
Choir have been really busy as well this term, with our highlight-of-the-year performance at “Love East Devonport.” Thanks to all the parents who got their students there on time, and looking great in school uniform. We spent a big day climbing hills and playing in Pioneer Park for our Christmas Carolling excursion – fitting in 2 well-received performances at Melaleuka Home for The Aged and Orana Baptcare Day Centre as well. As I write these words, we are about to gather for our last rehearsal of the year, in preparation for our performance at the Gr 6 Leaver’s Assembly next Tuesday. A huge, huge thanks for the positive support I’ve had from Choir parents in 2024. You guys probably don’t realise how much you are appreciated, I don’t think I could run Choir without you all!
In summation, I’d like to say a humble and quiet, “thanks for having me,” as this is to be my last year teaching Music at East Devonport Primary School. I’ve seen really solid growth in students’ learning in my 3 years here, and I thank you all for all that you do for your kids. I’ll still be here as a parent next year, so don’t be a stranger. Stay safe and well over the Christmas break.
Christmas holidays are just around the corner, it can be such a busy time, and it’s important to look after the wellbeing of ourselves and our family
Most children love Christmas, however, if you have a young child or your child is neurodiverse, it can be a challenging time of year. Routines are disrupted and there’s a lot of extra noise, colour and smells that can cause sensory overload.
During the Christmas holidays, try to make sure you have family self-care days and quiet times planned.
Most of all,
Have an enjoyable Christmas.
