As we reach the end of Term 3, I want to take a moment to reflect on the resilience and community spirit that define East Devonport Primary School.
There have been so many vibrant and positive moments over the past few weeks. Our Grade 6 students recently participated in a Challenge Day as part of their transition to Reece High School—a fantastic team-building experience that promoted resilience and collaboration. We’ve also celebrated achievements in the kitchen garden, participated in eisteddfods, and continued to see strong growth in our literacy learning focus. There is so much to be proud of.
Our work in inclusive practices continues to deepen. Staff have engaged in professional learning, collaborated across teams, and reflected on how we can best support every learner. Whether through targeted support, thoughtful planning, or the effective use of teacher assistants, we are building a school where every child is seen, valued, and supported.
We’ve also made strong progress in supporting students to remain engaged and regulated throughout the day. Through consistent expectations, restorative conversations, and a shared commitment to student success, we’re seeing positive changes in behaviour and classroom climate.
As we look ahead to Term 4, we’re excited to continue our focus on:
- Literacy and engagement, ensuring every student is challenged and supported in their learning.
- Attendance and wellbeing, creating a school environment where students feel safe, connected, and motivated to attend.
- Student voice and leadership, empowering our learners to take an active role in shaping their school experience.
To our students — thank you for your effort, kindness, and courage.
To our staff — thank you for your dedication, creativity, and care.
And to our families — thank you for your ongoing support and partnership.
I hope the upcoming break brings rest, joy, and time with loved ones. We look forward to returning in Term 4 with renewed energy and a continued commitment to growing together.
We are absolutely thrilled to announce that East Devonport Primary School has won the National Prize for the “Recipe of the Imagination” in the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Awards for 2025! Our winning creation, the “Cheesy Beet Burgers,” has made its mark across Australia—showcasing not only our students’ creativity but also the power of seasonal produce and teamwork. We adapted a recipe, ensured it was inclusive of all dietary needs, and even created a variation—“Cheesy Beet Balls”—which became an even bigger hit than the original! This achievement is a testament to the dedication of our students, the strength of our Kitchen Garden Program, and the collaborative spirit of our entire school community. Special thanks go to Mr Jago, and to our incredible staff who support these hands-on learning experiences every day. We are deeply grateful to General Mills for sponsoring our prize package, and to the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation for their ongoing support—not just for us, but for all finalists across the country. This win wouldn’t have been possible without the small but mighty contributions from across our school: the school lunch program that made “burger day” a reality, and the breakfast club who saved every loaf end so we could make our own breadcrumbs. It’s the little things that make the biggest difference. Who would have thought the humble silverbeet could shine so brightly? Golden, in fact! A heartfelt thank you to Cassie Smith, who has worked tirelessly to grow and lead our Kitchen Garden Program and proudly represented East Devonport Primary School at the national awards event in Adelaide. Her commitment and creativity have helped bring this vision to life. Thank you to everyone who played a part in this journey. We’re proud to represent Tasmania on the national stage—and even prouder of the creativity, care, and community that made it happen.

Students in Prep Stott celebrated spring by making some wonderful Spring crowns from the blooms in the garden.
Students in 2-3 Morice collected some wonderful Springtime blooms to decorate the tables in hot lunch.
Congratulations to the students who represented us at the 2025 Devonport Eisteddfods. Students all did an amazing job and should be very proud of themselves.

North West Representative team
Congratulations to Ewan, Eli, Samara and Kassadi who were selected in various sports across the North West Rep team. What an amazing effort.
The City of Devonport Brass Band is on the lookout for new members to join our Development Band.
The Band offers brass musical tutoring and the use of an instrument. No need to have ever picked up a brass instrument before – we are here to help!
The Band is a great opportunity to learn an instrument and be involved in our local community.
